We had a long weekend for Columbus day and decided to take full advantage of the break. We took Jack and headed out to an agriturismo called Lo Scodiera. The tennis kids played all Saturday morning against Naples and once the matches were all done we picked up Margie hit the hills. It was only about an hour and a half drive but we felt like we were miles away from the day to day routine. An agriturismo is an italian version of a B&B - but with more of a rustic, farm twist. We got there in time to take a walk to the farm and see all the animals. I think the pig in the picture weighed about 500 pounds - he was huge! Once we had toured the area a bit we headed back to the main farm and sipped presecco while we waited for dinner. In typical italian fashion, dinner did not begin until 8pm and was a very large meal served over a bit more than two hours. We had fresh pastas, veggies, meats and these incredible desserts all made with homemade fresh ricotta. Jack and I were exhausted so we went straight to bed after dinner.
Sunday morning they served a lite breakfast of fruit, biscotti, toast and caffe. We then headed out for a long hike along the ridge line of the area and wa....more to come - Jack needs me.
